Netminers InSight makes use of three types of cookies:

  • Third-party cookies
  • First-party cookies
  • Survey cookies

Third-party cookies

Netminers InSight seeks primarily to place 3rd party cookies since these are recognizable even if a website consists of more than one domain. For example, if the site is made up of mitsite.dk and www.mitsite.dk, 3 party cookies will ensure that a visit can be recognized across these domains.

The following third-party cookies are used:

NMUID

This is a persistent third-party cookie containing a unique visitor ID. The cookie is used to count the number of visitors and to recognize return visits.

ASP.NET_SessionID, NMSID, NMSID1, NMSID2, NMSID3 or NMSID4

These contain the same value. It is a third party session cookie containing a unique visit ID. A session cookie expires as the visit ends. The cookie makes it possible to count the number of visits and to determine which pages a visit has seen.

vc

This is a persistent third party cookie containing the current visit number of the visitor. The number increases by one at each new visit. The cookie makes it possible to see how the page views for each visitor depends on visit frequency.

lv

This is a persistent third party cookie containing the time of the visitor's last visit. The cookie makes it possible to measure how long visitors are typically inactive in between their visits.

First-party cookies

In case the visitor's browser does not accept third party cookies, Netminers InSight places in addition first party cookies that correspond to the above-mentioned third party cookies:

$nmvc

Corresponds to "vc"

$nmlv

Corresponds to "lv"

$nmuid

Corresponds to "NMUID"

$nmsid4

Corresponds to "ASP.NET_SessionID"

Using both third and first party cookies ensures a high data quality while at the same time respecting the security settings of the visitor’s browser.

Survey cookies

If Netminers Survey module is used to launch and online questionnaire on the website, Netminers InSight places an additional third party cookie whose name depends on the questionnaire ID. The naming follows the structure "S_x" where x indicates the questionnaire ID. The purpose of this cookie is to link responses to each of the visits who chooses to participate in the survey.
